Art Up!

A very summery piece is now up in the store. This piece is mixed-media on a cradled wood panel that's 8"x8". When the idea for this image came to me, I was imagining a woman whose thoughts got tangled in her hair and could be seen when the wind blew. It's ready to hang and for sale for $100. (update: the original has sold, but prints will be available soon!)

"Wind in Her Hair." Click on the image above to see larger and click here for more info about the piece and how to purchase. I like the soft colors in this one. It reminds me of the ocean, summers on the Cape. I miss living near the ocean! But there's a river nearby that I love.

I can't believe it's nearly July! My birthday is creeping up on me, slowly but surely. I'll be stepping firmly into my 30's as I turn 21 on the 17th. I still feel like I'm about 16 though as can be seen by the pig-tails I wore around today.

Newness

Lots of newness going on. My best friend Judean just had her first baby. Her name is Chloe. Congrats, Judean! She is the cutest little thing, so tiny. Chloe has reduced me to calling her all sorts of goofy names such as: my little potato, inchworm, little bunny, etc... I can't help it. She's 6 pounds 7 ounces of pure adorable.

I've been updating the website nearly every day with art, here are some of the latest pieces to go up. Click images to see them larger or click links to see more information.

Roots, mixed-media on board, 14"x18". Original available

Betwixt and Between, mixed media on clayboard, 12"x12". Original and prints available.

I just found out about this new program on HBO that's kinda cool. It's called "Voyeur" and it's a peek into about 6 apartments simultaneously. You can't hear what they're saying, but you get the gist of the stories as they play out in dramatic fashion. It was a lot of fun to watch. I was really amazed at how they got the timing to play out so perfectly and the inter-mixing of the stories is very cool. I'm not sure if they'll take it any further, if it's a series or what, but there's a slow to load website here that you can check out. Or if you have On Demand service and HBO you can see it there.

Red Cat, Blue Cat, Old Cat, New Cat

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big time cat lover. I've got one in my lap as I'm typing this actually! Last night I sketched my cats as they flattened themselves against the cool wood floor trying to survive the wicked heat wave we're having. And then I sat down and collaged and painted this image, "Red Cat" which is up for sale today. This piece is 6"x6" on gallery wrapped canvas with painted sides so it's ready to be hung on the wall.

I've recently been magnetically drawn to damask patterns.

damask , fabric of silk, wool, linen, cotton, or man-made fibers, with a pattern formed by the weaving; e.g., the ground may be in twill weave, and the contrasting design in satin. True damasks are flat and reversible, thus differing from brocades. Splendid patterns, silks, and dyes were used by the Damascus weavers, sometimes with the addition of gold or silver thread. Fine linen table damask is one of the most beautiful examples of the modern weavers' art, in both pattern and texture. Double damask has more picks, or threads, to the inch than single; compound damask has one or two warps and two fillings. (from Columbia Encyclopedia)

When I'd seen them before I always thought of them as too old-fashioned maybe even gaudy. But now I've been finding them simply delicious, intricate and fun. Go figure. I've been searching out stencils and fun fabrics, so stay tuned, I'm sure it will start to show up in my art soon enough. Here's an example of a damask wallpaper design from Classic Wallcoverings Inc.

It looks gorgeous in two contrasting shades, like above or in two subtly different shades. Pretty, pretty.

Inspiration

I had this image in my head of an owl and this is what came out last night, a purple-ish owl in front of a full moon. It's 6"x6" with blue tissue paper collage and acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. This side view shows how the painting wraps around the size. The Purple Owl is available now in the shop for $100! I plan to do a series of pieces in this size, so stay tuned.

There is more new art for sale in the store as well including Betwixt and Between and The Lighthouse, and there is a new page of art up in the Nature section.

I get asked a lot where my ideas come from. In my experience, inspiration can come from anywhere. I get a lot of ideas right before I fall asleep, so I keep paper and pen near the bed to catch them. The pattern in my cat's fur may spark an idea or the reflection in a bottle, or a great poem might inspire me. And sometimes, I just like to be wowed by the gorgeous creations of others. The internet is amazing for that, there is endless beauty to discover. To go on an endless image adventure, try typing a random word into Google and then at the top of the page, click images, for example here I searched for anemone. In the arts, I feel very drawn to three dimensional objects, perhaps because I work in 2-D. Right now, I'm loving pillows with great designs, fun plates and glasses, vases, and interesting jewelry.

Welcome, Welcome!

Lighthouse_2

I feel like I've been saying "welcome!" a lot in the past couple days, as I've been introducing friends, family and clients to my new website here at Blue Tree Art Gallery. And now I have this blog set up here to allow me to share my latest creations and inspirations.

I'm still developing things here, adding links and images, so keep checking in here and at the main site where I'll be updating regularly.

Above, is a recent painting, called "The Lighthouse" which I thought might be a good welcoming piece of art for this new site.
